We have a book fair Non-fiction these days. Things are getting better each year, but still the most interesting thing is foreign books. Needless to say I spent almost all my time near French, Swedish and Norwegian books and was lucky to buy some of them. Up above there are Det är bara lite AIDS by Sara Granér, L’enfant qui grandissait by Vincent Cuvellier, illustrated by Charles Dutertreand and Le phoque by Caroline Lamarche and Goele Dewanckel which matches accidentally Roland Breucker's Quelques années de mine.

Christmas is near

It was funny and, well, crucial to draw comics about Christ. But after all he was just like every other little boy. While drawing his halo I made a small research about it. The form of this circular glow around the head was changing with the lapse of time. First the halo was shown as a flat circle behind the head. When perspective came to be considered essential, painters changed the halo to a ring that appeared in perspective. I definitely like the first one - simple and much more decorative than just a ring floating above. I'm old fashioned, yep.

Oh, Jesus!

This t-shirt is a gift for a friend. He's a student of seminary. I have recently finished comics about Christmas and decided to adapt its main character (yep, baby Jesus!) for a t-shirt. It was pretty hard to make his halo, since it's so detailed.

Self portraying and self publishing

Students were making giant self portraits last week. Spooky! The best are those with irregular features: one eye is bigger than other, unsymmetrical, challenging.

I flicked through The yellow Tannenbaum and others book of Katrin Stangl yesterday.

Up above it's the unpublished (yet!) book of Stefanie Harjes. She gave a masterclass today in the University of Printing Arts here in Moscow. The book's name is "Komm, ich erzähl dir was vom Ferd" and it's the only one version in the whole world for now I guess.

Also Beatrice Alemagna has some news for us from time to time.

Before

It's getting too cold to drink coffee outside, but they can give you some mulled wine which is perfect. All my customers are preparing to Christmas already and I'm living in the future.

Found this book in a second-hand bookshop. It's important to leave endpapers filled with drawings. Especially in children's books. It's so obvious, seems needless to say. But I've seen so many blank end sheets. The book starts right form the cover and shouldn't be interrupted.
